After Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed Senate Bill 309, folks who invested in the solar system industry found themselves feeling lost. 

A local group is developing a way to help Terre Haute go solar. 

Monday night, they gathered for the first time to discuss the effort. 

The meeting Monday was all about information: deadlines, costs, investments and more. 

They say knowledge is the most powerful thing and even though Solarize Terre Haute is running on a tight schedule.

Volunteers say it’s now or never. 

A freshly started volunteer group, Solarize Terre Haute wants to give anyone who isn’t on the solar grid yet one last chance to see if solar energy is a good fit for you. 

“I really think there’s benefits for everybody in the community,” says T.J. Hellmann, organizer. “No matter if you have a small house, you’re a big property owner or land owner. Come and think about it.” 

It’s three easy words:

  • Solar
  • Savings
  • Simple

That’s the tag line for Solarize Terre Haute. 

They’re holding meetings across the Wabash Valley to give you information you need to make an educated decision on whether or not to jump on board with the solar industry. 

“You need to do your own research and this is a great place to start,” says attendee Tobias Inserra. “It’s where they give a lot of good information. A lot of good stats. And you need to be able to, if you’re interested at all, it’s the place to be.” 

These meetings are for you to ask any questions you may have. 

Either about the grid, insurance, placement of panels, how many panels…You name it? They’ll find you an answer. 

This volunteer organization just has one goal in mind.

“All we’re really trying to do, we’re not on a sales pitch here, we’re just trying to promote really the idea, give people the information they need so they can make the decision for them and their family and their business,” says Hellmann. 

December 31st is the official state deadline to be grandfathered in to the original incentive program for the next thirty years, but this group offers a much closer one. 

September 30th. 

This is for anyone thinking of starting fresh. 

Organizers say, this way, you are guaranteed to be grandfathered in to the incentive program.

The next three meetings are free to attend.
