St. Mary of the Woods College received help in its ongoing efforts to restore Lake Le Fer.
Tuesday, The Duke Energy Foundation awarded the school a $15,000 grant through the Indiana Wildlife Federation to go toward the endeavor.
Grant monies will also be used to expand the classroom to the outdoors.
“We’re committed to sustainabilityand providing a first class education to our students, and this is an opportunity to bring those two ideas together,” SMWC president Dottie King said.
“I think something like this really gets you right up close to the things you are trying to learn rather than being in a classroom, textbook reading, this gets you out there,” added Duke Energy district manager Rick Burger.
During the check presentation, the Wildlife Federation also named the school a Sustainable Campus. The designation will help the two partners build and maintain wildlife-friendly trails.
