Leaders at St. Mary-Of-The-Woods College and its various community partners came together Wednesday to announce that the college’s campus footprint is expanding by approximately 160 acres.
The expansion comes as part of a purchase agreement between SMWC and Sisters of Providence.
The college will be taking ownership of land it currently leases from SOP, plus additional land and properties, including two historic buildings that currently house the SOP.
While specifics haven’t been released yet, portions of land could be used to expand and add athletic centers and facilities as well as parking.
“I like to say the college is experiencing a Renassiance, lots of things have happened in the last 3-5 years, the sports center, the co-educational, the nursing program, that students really are discovering St. Mary-Of-The-Woods, and so the need for property, the need for a place to put additional fields presented itself,” said Dawn Tomaszewski, Sisters of Providence General Supervisor.
“We’re learning to dream again, and this is giving us a tangible place to do it,” said SMWC President Dr. Dottie King.
The funding for this opportunity came from a loan program through the USDA, which granted SMWC nearly $14 million.
