VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The sisters of providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods came together this morning for a special mass.
The Feast of Our Lady Of Providence happens yearly at the church of the immaculate conception on the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods campus.
The feast day, in the Catholic tradition, is a day to set aside to commemorate the life of an individual.
At this feast, the person celebrated was Mary.
The Sisters of Providence gather at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Providence on this day to pray for the intentions sent to the shrine.
“The shrine is so people who have special intentions, for the sick mostly, for themselves and many for thanksgiving, send their petitions here. They come from Puerto Rico, from Austria, from Paris, from Spain, from Brazil. From all over the world,” said Sister Mary Griffin of the Sisters of Providence.
Sister Mary Griffin said she was pleased with the turnout from the mass.
She added that they plan for it months it advance.
