Officials say a Shoals man is dead after a rollover crash in Martin County.
On October 18th, at 2:10 PM in the afternoon, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle rollover accident.
Two witnesses in separate vehicle were traveling northeast on State Road 450 just north of Hickory Ridge Road. Both drivers report that the vehicle was traveling southwest on State Road 450 at a high rate of speed and crossed the center line, almost hitting the first witness head on.
Then the driver, Jaun Terry, 43, of Shoals, swerved abruptly to avoid the collision. Terry then over-corrected and crossed the centerline nearly hitting the second witness head on, when he over-corrected a final time, causing the truck to slide sideways and run off the roadway, striking an electric pole.
When the truck impacted the pole, it caused the pole to snap into two pieces and the truck to flip over onto its top.
State Road 450 was closed for two and a half hours after the crash due to powerlines being down over the highway.
Terry was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident resulting in him being partially ejected and trapped under the vehicle.
Martin Co. Deputy Coroner Mark Franklin pronounced Juan Terry deceased at the scene and he was transported to Queen Lee funeral home in Shoals, Indiana.
Assisting agencies were the Shoals Fire Dept., Martin County EMS, and Daviess County REMC.
