Sheriff: Vermillion County man arrested after leading officers on short chase

VERMILLION Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man is in jail after a short police chase on Thursday in Vermillion County.

According to the Vermillion County Sheriff, officials were called Union Hospital in Clinton around 10 p.m. regarding a woman who was assaulted and seriously injured.

The victim told deputies she was assaulted by another female while walking with her husband in Universal. However, the sheriff said the story had several inconsistencies.

Deputies were told the victim’s husband, Troy A. Lowe, 37, of Universal, was in the parking lot waiting for the victim to be released.

The sheriff said deputies located Lowe for questioning in relation to the incident. Officials reported Lowe argumentative with the officers. They then located what they believed to be a weapon consistent with the victim’s story.

According to the sheriff, Lowe was asked to get out of the vehicle, but instead drove away.

Officers then chased Lowe, before losing sight of his vehicle.

Officers were able to find the vehicle later at a home but could not locate Lowe.

The sheriff said 911 dispatch later received a call stating that Lowe was found asleep on the reporting parties couch.

The reporting party requested that deputies come and remove Lowe from the home.

According to the sheriff, Lowe was taking into custody for resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness and driving while suspended.
