Senators, state reps to support teachers at Red for Ed Action Day

VIGO Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — On November 19, Vigo County Schools will be closed for Red for Ed Action Day at the Indiana Statehouse.

The corporation said it’s closing as a support to the teachers who are participating.

State Representative Tonya Pfaff says all state senators and representatives will attend the event.

They plan to address issues such as low teacher pay and teacher shortages in Indiana.

Pfaff said Red for Ed Action Day is especially important to her, since teaching is her passion.

“I teach high school math. And then, as soon as January starts I leave my classroom and I’m a state representative. After session is over I go back the classroom. So for me, Red for Ed is very important both as a state representative and a teacher. Everyone deserves the best quality education they can get,” Pfaff said.

Another education issue Pfaff said she plans to address in the next legislative session is the expansion of pre-k and affordable childcare.
