Senate Bill to expand insulin options moves through statehouse

INDIANAPOLIS (WTWO/WAWV) — A bill that would repeal the need for insulin prescription in Indiana is moving its way to the governor’s desk.

Insulin is necessary for Type 1 and many Type 2 Diabetics.

Senate Bill 255 passed in committee on Wednesday at the statehouse. Senator Jon Ford, Ed Charbonneau and Linda Rogers authored the bill.

Senator Jon Ford says the reason behind the bill is to combat increasing insulin prices. It would allow a person who needs insulin to shop online or travel to Canada for better prices.

The bill will go to for a full house vote on Monday. Senator Ford says if it passes, it would go into effect July 2020.
