Second COVID-19 case reported in Vigo County; cases in state increase


VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A second case of COVID-19 has been reported in Vigo County, according to an update on the county health department website.

There was no information surrounding this new case. The first case of COVID-19 in Vigo County was reported Thursday evening at Union Hospital.

The Indiana Department of Health reported 47 new cases in the state Saturday morning. As of 10 a.m. there were 126 positive cases in Indiana. Three people in the state have died.

The state said 833 people have been tested, 279 of them in the past 24 hours.

Below is a list of counties where the newest cases as of Saturday morning have been reported:

The new cases involve residents of Allen (3), Clark (3), Delaware (1), Elkhart (1), Greene (1), Hamilton (5), Hancock (1), Harrison (1), Hendricks (2), Howard (1), Johnson (2), Lake (1), LaPorte (1), Marion (22), Scott (1) and Vigo (1) counties.

Health officials had previously said it was only a matter of time before a positive case of the virus was reported in the area.

“I think of it as watching kind of a storm roll in, we knew it was coming,” Dr. Jackie Holder, Union Hospital medical director, told WTWO/WAWV Thursday evening in talking about the first confirmed case.
