School bus safety bill advances at statehouse

A school bus safety bill passed the Indiana State Senate judiciary committee unanimously Wednesday morning.

In a 10-0 vote, state lawmakers voted to advance Senate Bill 2 to the full senate.

It would result in harsher penalties for drivers who disregard school bus stop arms. For example, it would increase the penalty from an infraction to a misdemeanor.

It could be increased to a felony if someone is injured, as well as result in higher fines.

Local State Senator Eric Bassler is a co-author of this bill.
