Scammers are once again blowing up phones across the Wabash Valley, and there’s a new group of con artists targeting a group of people that are customers to one particular cell phone company.
These calls are going after people that are customers of AT&T and Direct-TV.
Residents have reported that they have been called by officials of Amazon, offering a promotional deal for new customers to save money on their Direct-TV service.
They give the customer a numbered code, then instructed to call another number and give them the code to receive their ‘special deal.’
Officials of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has seen a spike in scams calls lately, and they are advising folks to always be alert and cautious to avoid becoming a victim.
They say always ignore these calls, do not give out any personal information, and if you’re uncertain about their identity, just hang up the phone.
If you are being harassed by scammers you can report them to the TRIAD hotline at 812-231-1430.
