Parke County area businesses and residents are being warned of a scam targeting the area.
Local businesses have received phone calls from Elite Sports Unlimited claiming they are working with Parke Heritage High School to create t-shirts to be distributed at events. Businesses were asked to purchase advertising space on the back of the shirts.
Parke County School Corporation Superintendent Thomas Rohr confirmed the scam, noting that the school is not working with any company to have t-shirts made.
“We just never do those types of things, unless it’s one of our students making direct contact” Rohr said of the t-shirt advertising.
Rohr advised the community to call and confirm with the school before making donations or purchasing advertising from an unknown source.
The Parke County Sheriff’s Department and Parke County Chamber of Commerce were notified of the scam.
