Chances and Services For Youth has come up with a fun way to get kids to wear their bicycle helmets.
CASY is teaming up with the Terre Haute Police Department and Vigo County Sheriff’s Office for the “Safe Rider Citation Program.” Law enforcement officials will be on the lookout for kids using safe practices. They’ll then give those children a “citation,” but these citations are a good thing!
“These officers are going to be using their discretion to have an interaction with these kids, give them a citation, have a little interaction with them. Talk to them about the things they are doing right and maybe the things they could continue to improve on, and just start building a positive relationship,” says Community Outreach Coordinator for CASY.
Children can take their citations to Dreamery Creamery on Wabash Avenue for a free scoop of ice cream. The program continues through August 1st.
