TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Ryves Community Optimist Club is continuing to raise money for the future of children at the Ryves Youth center in Terre Haute.

The group held their fifth annual charity brunch Saturday morning.

The event featured guest speaker Gary Coleman who grew up in the Ryves community and went on to find success as a finance manager.

The group’s president says Ryves is considered one of the more impoverished areas in the Terre Haute community, so the group formed to help the lead the kids who live there to a bright future.

“Things like ‘Reading with the Author’ program via Skype, by supplying school supplies, by providing all the warm meals and mentoring and tutoring that they need up there,” said the club’s president Bret Ridgway.

The brunch also included a silent auction.
