Rose Hulman hosts annual math competition

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Rose Hulman Institute of Technology hosted the 54th annual Rose-Hulman High School Mathematics Competition Saturday.

The competition had 27 schools from around Indiana and Illinois and featured 428 students. Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South, West Vigo, and Terre Haute Christian Home Eduall all represented the Wabash Valley.

Terre Haute South placed 2nd in the competition and Terre Haute North placed 5th.

Students were also scored by class. Jayce Dix from Terre Haute South had the best score of freshmen. Other top five finishers in the Wabash Valley included: Caroline Christ of Terre Haute North Vigo, Stephen Kallubhavi of Terre Haute South Vigo, Micah Beachy of the Terre Haute Christian Home Educators team, and Aadil Parvaz from Terre Haute South Vigo.

The competition was organized by Rose-Hulman mathematics professor John Rickert and other faculty from the math department.

“I hope they can take away an interest challenging problems, have some joy in doing some mathematics, and a feeling of accomplishment for solving the problems,” Professor, John Rickert said.

Dozen of RHIT students and faculty volunteered to proctor the exams.
