A tragic end for one Jasonville family continues to heal.
Fifteen year old Layla Raines passed away after being struck by a car in May.
Tonight her community came together to honor the high school track runner with a memorial 5k walk-run. Layla also performed in show choir when she was in school. Proceeds from tonight’s event will benefit a scholarship fund in Layla’s name, started by her family, who were happy with the first annual 5k turn out tonight.
“The turn out is unbelieavleb this year, we had over 100 people pre-register and we registered close to 50 people today. We’re really really happy with the turn out today,” Micki Strunk, Layla’s cousin said.
Layla’s mother tells WTWO news that layla would be happy with a 5k in her honor, as she set her sights to join the cross country team.
