Teenager killed in crash in Illinois’ Clay County

CLAY CITY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Friday afternoon crash on US Route 50 at South Main Street in Clay County killed one and injured two, Illinois State Police reported Sunday.

The incident occurred at 4:14 p.m. when a 2007 Chevrolet driven by Alexis Sargent, 18, of Fairfield, Ill., was traveling northbound on South Main Street. A 1994 Chevrolet van driven by William Goluba, 53, of Olney, Ill., was traveling eastbound on US Route 50. Sargent failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and was struck by Goluba on the driver’s side of her car.

Sargent was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Her passenger, a 14-year-old male from Fairfield, Ill., and Goluba were transported by ambulance to an area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
