CHICAGO — Illinois Gov. JB Pritkzer and state health officials will provide an update at 2:30 p.m. CT Tuesday on COVID-19 and its impact on the state.
J.B. Pritzker on Monday signed an executive order giving the Illinois Department of Corrections permission to allow “medically vulnerable” inmates out of prison temporarily for as long as the governor’s disaster proclamation is in effect.
The order came as 62 inmates and 40 Corrections Department staffers had been confirmed to have COVID-19. Two inmates at Stateville Correctional center have died of the disease.
As of Monday, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported a total of 12,262 coronavirus cases throughout the state. Three hundred seven Illinoisans have died of the virus.
