Over half of Illinois adults have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as cases continue to be reported

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Illinois experienced 674 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday along with 24 new deaths, a press release from the Illinois Department of Public Health said. Additionally, vaccination numbers have been steadily climbing in the state.

As of Thursday, over 67% of adults in Illinois have received at least one vaccination shot while almost 51% have been fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A total of 11,374,677 vaccines had been administered in Illinois at 12 a.m. Thursday.

The IDPH has reported a total of 1,383,739 COVID-19 cases in the state, including 22,865 deaths, spread over all 102 counties. The age of cases, according to the press release, ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.

As of Wednesday night, almost 1,000 Illinois citizens were reportedly hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 273 were in intensive care and 154 were on ventilators.
