COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — An 89-year-old driver died this afternoon in accident when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with another vehicle. He has not been identified pending notification of the next of kin.
At 12:25 p.m., the driver was navigating his 2018 Ford sedan east on Old State Road in Coles County, approaching Lerna Road, when he failed to heed the stop sign. His car struck a 2008 Buick SUV being driven by Gabriela Adamson, 18, of Toledo, Ill., who was heading south on Lerna Road.
The Ford driver was pronounced deceased on scene. Adamson was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Coles County Coroner will release the name of the deceased once next-of-kin notifications have been made. The crash is still under investigation.
