Indiana 10-year-old killed by Jeep while riding bike

OOLITIC, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A 10-year-old riding his bike was killed late Wednesday afternoon when a Jeep struck him, Indiana State Police reported.

At approximately 5:43 p.m., authorities were summoned to Vista Drive near Meadow Lane, where they found a bystander giving medical care to an unresponsive child. The Oolitic Police Department provided assistance, and the child was transported by ambulance to IU Health in Bedford where he succumbed to his injuries.

An investigation revealed that a 2016 Jeep driven by Matthew Nikirk, 45, of Bedford, Ind., was traveling northbound on Vista Drive when his vehicle struck the child, identified as Camden Moore of Oolitic.  

Family were notified and an autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday. Indiana State Police investigators are conducting a crash reconstruction.
