1 fatality when minivan crashes into pickup in Lawrence County, Ill.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — A pickup driver was killed Friday when he stopped and activated his flashers on Route 50 in Allison Township and the driver of a minivan rear-ended the vehicle, Illinois State Police reported Saturday.

Philip S. Cretors, 55, of Bridgeport, Ill. was headed westbound on US Route 50, just east of Illinois Route 33, when he stopped in the right lane, put his vehicle in park and activated his flashers. Holly M. Fessler, 52, of Petersburg, Ind., was also traveling westbound when she struck the rear of Cretors’ pickup at 1:26 p.m.. Both were transported by ambulances to an area hospital, where Cretors succumbed to his injuries. Fessler’s injuries were non-life-threatening. She was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
