TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local hospital is being recognized for its care. Now, staff will teach its practices to other hospitals.
Terre Haute Regional Hospital has been named the 2019 Pioneers in Quality Expert Contributor. It’s one of only five hospitals in the country chosen by the Joint Commission.
Hospital staff say the award means that they give exceptional care in the prevention of blood clots in hospital patients.
“When patients come into the hospital, they’re not resuming their normal level of activity, so that puts you at higher risk of developing a blood clot that can travel up to your lung, or your heart, or your brain. It’s very important for us to prevent those blood clots in our hospitalized patients,” says Karen Hescher, Lead Performance Improvement Coordinator at the hosptial.
Regional Hospital will be published in the Proven Practices Collection in November. Staff will also get to teach other hospitals in an upcoming seminar.
