Rain causes some delays for street construction crews

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – With all the rain we’ve had recently, you may be curious how it’s impacting street projects in Terre Haute.

Brad Utz, Director of Inspection, says it all depends on the project.

One of the big projects underway right now is the widening of Poplar Street.

Crews actually started to put some pavement down Thursday morning, but had to stop due to the rain.

“Anytime you’re doing excavation where there’s going to be finished product such as pavement or sidewalk on it, it softens the subgrade and it puts you behind. Sometimes it even creates extra work that needs to be done to get the density back to where it’s supposed to be before you can pave on it,” says Utz.

As of right now, he doesn’t expect any significant delays, but says it all depends on the future forecast.
