TERRE HAUTE, (WTWO/WAWV) – On June 22nd, railroad crossings throughout Terre Haute will be temporarily closed by CSX.
The closures are set to begin at 9:00 A.M on Monday.
Representatives with CSX say the closures are a part of the company’s critical infrastructure maintenance program.
The list of closures include:
- 3rd Avenue
- Locust Street
- Elm Street
- Chestnut Street
- Ohio Street
- Walnut Street
- Poplar Street
- Crawford Street
- 13th Street
- College Avenue
- Washington Avenue
- Hulman Street
Terre Haute officials say while Wabash Avenue is not included in the list of expected closures, it will likely be blocked by a stopped or slow train for a period of time.
Officials say the closures will diminish from north to south.
In a statement CSX explains the reasoning for the closures:
“As part of the company’s critical infrastructure maintenance program, CSX is conducting repairs on highway-rail grade crossings in Terre Haute, Indiana. Maintenance like this is essential to the safety of both train operations and roadway traffic. The work has been scheduled in close coordination with local roadway authorities in order to temporarily close crossings so that crews can replace crossties and repave the asphalt to provide a safe, smooth surface for drivers. Crews will move along the rail line, repaving each crossing as they go, which can take between two to five days to complete barring severe weather or any other unexpected disruptions. We appreciate the public’s patience as we complete this work to ensure the safe, reliable movement of trains, and the safety of our employees and the communities in which we operate.”Sheriee S.
