There are new developments on two potential projects in Vigo County. Those include the location of the new jail and the possibility of a casino.
Both items were discussed at the Vigo County Commissioners meeting Tuesday.
Officials gave an update on the jail and say though the location hasn’t officially chosen yet they are getting close.
They are leaning toward a location at Springhill and 63 and have gotten designs and appraisals for the property.
Meanwhile Tuesday commissioners also approved a resolution to show their support for a new bill that could bring a casino to Vigo County.
“I think one of the main reasons is the jobs that it will create and the spinoff of all those jobs for people supplying and doing that in Terre Haute and Vigo County,” Vigo County Commissioner Brad Anderson said. “Also, we know that it can be a tax base, it’s going to improve the tax bases. Plus, we have a convention center we are working on and what other thing to bring people to a community for a convention is having a place for entertainment and a casino.”
On Feb. 6, commissioners will meet with legislators about the casino bill in Indianapolis.
And on Feb. 13, the county is scheduled to update a federal judge on the status of the jail.
