The Vigo County Sheriff’s office is searching for a man tonight after a major theft investigation at a southern Vigo County home.
After a string of theft reports, sheriff’s deputies responded to the house on Dallas Drive off US Highway 41.
Over the past several months, personal items–expensive ones at that, have gone missing right from the owner’s yards.
Crews from the Vigo County sheriff’s office say they’ve been uncovering stolen items all day, including atv’s, tractors, jet skis, and more.
Police say the stolen property is worth thousands of dollars.
Officials tell WTWO News they also found loaded weapons inside the house.
When deputies arrived, police say a driveway sensor tipped off a male suspect who fled the scene.
However, deputies did arrest Tammy Armstrong of Terre Haute.
The 49-year-old faces a charge of “possession of stolen property”.
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office continues to check serial numbers on the items they found.
“I mean we’re just going to have to find–see what we find. Start running serial numbers and see what reports they come back linked to. It will be a long process, so we’ll just determine what we actually have, then we’ll start combing through the reports,” says Chief Deputy John Moats.
Moats says his crews have been clearing out acres of land, where police believe the suspects attempted to hide the items.
Moats says one property is now finished. There are two more they will search next.
Officials believe the suspects have been stealing items for the past six months
WTWO News knows of at least one owner who got their property back.
