VIGO Co., Ind. — One person is dead after a crash on Interstate 70 in Vigo County Sunday.
According to Indiana State Police, a SUV crashed underneath a semi-trailer around 2:07 p.m. near mile-marker 1 by the Darwin Road exit in West Terre Haute.
They said traffic on the interstate was moving slow due to another crash on I-70 in Clark County.
Police said a tractor trailer was driving westbound near the state line. The truck’s hazard lights were on because of slow traffic.
According to police, the driver of the semi, Sergiy S. Shadrin of Ontario, felt an impact in the back of his truck and immediately stopped.
Police said the driver of an SUV hit the back of the semi after failing to see the slow traffic.
The driver of the SUV died at scene.
They have not been identified. An autopsy will be performed at Terre Haute Regional Hospital Monday.
Lanes were closed on I-70 for about a half hour and have been re-opened.
