Overnight Arson Investigation Ongoing

Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to hear your place of worship is on fire.

That’s what members of The Saints Home Church Of God In Christ thought.

The call came in around 12:30 this morning that the church was on fire.

The church is near North 13th and Lafayette streets.

But when crews arrived they found it was really the church van.

The fire blew out windows of the church, and left damage to the church’s exterior and totaled the 2016 Ford church van.

The church had purchased the van, just a few weeks ago.

Officials say they’re investigating the fire, as an arson.

And the pastor of the church has a message for the person responsible.

“I just pray that God will help them and I think that the person is awful cowardly to do something like this, whether it’s stealing property or whether it’s burning someones property,” Mark Blade said. “This is a very serious matter. Somebody could get hurt. It could have set the building on fire but fortunately it did not. So I think the person should turn themselves in.”

There is no interior damage to the church and no one was hurt during the fire.

And church services for the upcoming week will continue as planned.
If you have any information about the fire, call the Terre Haute Fire Department.
