Overboard fisherman safe after swimming ten minutes to shore

WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A man fishing in West Terre Haute has suffered minor injuries after falling out of his boat.

Josh Sittler of the Sugar Creek Fire Department says that the man was fishing at the Green Valley Public Fishing Area when the motor fell off of his boat. This caused the man to fall into the water.

The man swam for roughly ten minutes to make it back to shore, where he was met by emergency crews. The Sugar Creek Fire Department, Terre Haute Sheriffs Department, and Trans-care Ambulance had all responded to the incident.

The man was not transported to the hospital and was released from the scene. Crews were also able to pull the man’s boat from the water.

Sittler says that the man was not wearing a life vest.
