Operation Vanguard a Success

News

An event that raises awareness about homeless veterans was a big success this year.

Operation Vanguard wrapped up Monday afternoon.

It’s an event put on by Wabash Valley Veterans Services.

For four days, participants camped outside in the cold, raising money and food.

This year, they saw dozens of volunteers and raised twice as much money as they did last year.

However, organizers say their work isn’t finished.

“We always need the support of the community. We don’t receive any federal funding, so if we’re ever to realize the dream of a homeless shelter for veterans, we need that continued support,” says Scott Wynn, the Veteran Services Coordinator.

Organizers say they’re grateful for the community’s support this weekend.

They’ll continue to hold this annual event for as long as veteran homelessness is an issue.
