KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a wreck in Knox County.

It happened late Thursday night on U.S. 41 north of Willow Street.

Indiana State Police say 26-year-old Kayla Jones of Bicknell collided into the rear of a moped.

The passenger on the moped, 21-year-old Skylar Newton of Washington, died at the scene.

The operator of the moped, 22-year-old Robert Vaquero of Huntingburg was transported to the hospital in Vincennes and later airlifted to Evansville where he is being treated for serious injuries.

Police say Newton and Vaquero were not wearing helmets.

Investigators say Jones did not see the moped until just prior to the collision. Troopers inspected the moped and determined that the rear taillight was not illuminated at the time of the crash.
