One Dead Following Interstate Dispute


A man has died following a dispute inside a car on Interstate 70.

The incident happened just before 10:00 Sunday night, east of the of the Cloverdale exit.

Indiana State Police say the victim, Mario Edwards, 33, of Columbus Ohio was shot twice in the torso, before being dropped off at the Putnam County Hospital.

Police say that the suspects’ dropped Edwards, and a witness at the Hospital then left. 

Putnam County Hospital staff members were unable to save Edwards.

Just before 2:00 Monday morning Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies located the remaining suspects and their vehicle on State Road 240.

They were stopped on Round Barn Road, north of Indianapolis Road near Greencastle.

Two black males were taken into custody without incident by a Putnam County Sheriff deputy and Greencastle Police officer.

Police arrested 18-year-old Markus Yeanay of Columbus, Ohio on Murder charges. 

Indiana State Police also arrested 21-year-old Stefon Woods, he faces drug related charges and is not charged in the death of Edwards. 

Edwards’ autopsy is scheduled for later this week.

Initial reports of the shooting came in at approximately 9:50 Sunday evening.

Officials believed that the shooting had happened at Putnam County Hospital.

Officers from Greencastle Police, and Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene at 9:54, and Indiana State Police Troopers moments later.
