HYMERA, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – With school slated to start in just under a month, a local school corporation is facing staffing needs at multiple positions.
Northeast School Corporation Superintendent Mark Baker said the school is in need of custodial staff, cooks, teachers and three bus drivers.
“I think a lot of schools in the area are experiencing some staffing difficulties that the Northeast Schools are experiencing at all levels,” he said.
A commercials driver’s license is needed for bus drivers. Baker said, for those who already have a CDL, bus driver training could be completed by the start of the school year.
Baker said, without more bus drivers, the school will be short three routes, and changes would need to be made.
“Routes will be longer, routes will [include all K-12 students] instead of kindergarten through sixth grade, and seventh grade through 12th,” Baker said.
He added if the school was to lose a driver, it may need to do tiered bus driving, with younger grades starting school later in the morning.
“In the most drastic case we would need to go to a two-tier system,” Baker said.
