No ‘Likes’ for Social Media Scams in Illinois

News

Scammers are back on the prowl, and this time they are using social media to find new targets. Which has a lot of Illinois residents, wishing for a ‘dislike’ button.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says she’s received numerous consumer complaints about Facebook and Instagram accounts that are using links for people to get free money under her office and name.

Madigan says this is a way for scammers to get someone’s personal information through social media or email. She says that would never happen in her office, and nobody working for her would do so.

Madigan advises anyone that has encountered a scam.. to report it immediately. You can do so by calling her Consumer Fraud Hotline in Springfield at 1-800-243-0618 or by filing a complaint on her website.. by clicking here.
