TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Weather conditions have delayed construction of the new Vigo Co. jail.
The jail is being built on the south side of Terre Haute just behind the Haute City Center.
According to Vigo Co. Sheriff John Plasse, progress has been made on construction work below the ground.
Construction workers have installed temporary electricity and drywall piping.
Plasse said fortunately the pandemic has not slowed the progress at the site.
“They said they’re kind of watching that to see if that will slow production on some of those precast walls that we’re bring in. But, up to this point that has not slowed this project. The weather has unfortunately slowed it by 38 days,” he said.
He said the county is still expecting the jail to be complete by March 2022.
