VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Residents in Vincennes are very excited to learn that a new business will be opening soon.
“We’ve been working with national tenants, retail, restaurants and we just started construction on the Hobby Lobby a few months ago,” said developer, Heath Klein.
Klein said although Vincennes is a smaller city, it has the capacity to draw in big business.
“We draw from a wide area. 20 mile trade area’s about 90,000 people, so we can support some larger retailers and restaurants,” he said.
New development in Vincennes has been in the works for years and Mayor Joe Yochum says one thing has helped it get this far.
“This goes to show you that as a community when we all work together, good things will happen,” he said.
It is also viewed as an important part of building the city’s quality of life.
“Quality of life is important when you’re recruiting people to our community. And so this is just another tool that we can have to offer people that quality of life so that they don’t have to drive an hour south or two hours north,” Klein said.
The new Hobby Lobby is just the beginning of even more to come.
“There’s also a lot of rumors about some other retailers which we’re not quite able to announce yet. But we’ve got several that will be coming our way and I think the community will be excited for those as well,” Klein.
In addition to the new Hobby Lobby, Vincennes has drawn interest from Texas Roadhouse.
The mayor said the popular restaurant chain has made a request to be on their next board of zoning appeals agenda.
