A significant new effort is underway to promote downtown Terre Haute. Today the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce announced that Stephanie Pence will be the new Downtown Terre Haute Coordinator.
Pence is a former Downtown Terre Haute board member, a current member of the Chamber and she owns Hallie Hound Barkery, which specializes in cat and dog treats.
The downtown coordinator position fills a need in the community after the Chamber took over a lot of the responsibilities of the now-defunct Downtown Terre Haute Inc. That organization was in charge of such events as the Block Party.
Pence says the Block Party will not continue, however First Fridays will continue. She’s also wants to develop new and exciting ways to enhance the downtown.
“I get tired of hearing people who have lived here all their lives saying there’s nothing to do in Terre Haute,” said Pence. “I want to show them there is something to do there’s something to be proud of something to be passionate about and that’s what I hope to bring to downtown Terre Haute.”
Pence was awarded the Terre Haute Young Leader Award in 2011. Her business was also recognized with an Indiana Small Business Development award in 2010. She is an Indiana State graduate and holds a Master’s of Leadership Development from St. Mary’s of the Woods College.
