Sunday marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week, when Hoosiers are invited to give back to the State Parks, whether it be by maintaining trails or helping in nature centers.
At Turkey Run State Park, Boy Scouts visited to help pull weeds in order to allow wildflowers to grow.
Naturalists say the hope is that volunteering this week will lead to continued volunteering throughout the year.
AARON DOUGLASS: INTERPRETIVE NATURALIST FOR TURKEY RUN STATE PARK: “I can’t think of a more enjoyable task then coming and spending your entire morning at one of our most beautiful state parks in Indiana like Turkey Run. Then you know that what you volunteered and did is gonna benefit the park, the animals there, the plants there but also all the future visitors who come,” said TRSP Interpretive Naturalist Aaron Douglass.
National Volunteer Week lasts April 7-13.
