A national event planned for Saturday is aimed at keeping prescription drugs out of the wrong hands.

According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends.

To prevent individuals from becoming accidental suppliers, the Drug Enforcement Administration holds a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day twice a year, with the next one scheduled for Saturday.

On this day, the public is encouraged to clear out medicine cabinets of unused or expired prescription medications.

During the October 2018 event, nearly 1 million pounds of drugs were collected at more than 5,800 locations across the country.
