More setbacks for ‘adult-oriented business’

A group hoping to open an “adult-oriented” business in Terre Haute is facing more setbacks.

Monday, the owners of Ruth + Bick Inc. did not get the news they were hoping for when their hearing in front of the Vigo County Alcoholic Beverage Board was continued to June.

According to board member and local attorney Jeff Lind, the matter could not be considered during the meeting due to zoning issues and the fact that proper notification was not posted at the site.

Prior to Monday’s meeting, the first setback occurred when a zoning hearing to decide if Ruth + Bick Inc. would receive a special use permit was rescheduled.

Owners of the corporation hope to open the “adult oriented” business at 3295 N. Fruitridge Ave.

Lind explained that if the owners simply wanted to open a bar at the location, it would not require the special use permit; however, he said they have testified twice that the intent is to open the adult business.

Even if zoning was in order, Lind noted that they failed to properly post notice at the Fruitridge location.

The rescheduled zoning hearing will be June 5. The next Alcoholic Beverage Board meeting will be June 17.

Ruth + Bick will be required to post notice of the public hearing for the liquor license by June 7.
