Volunteers are important contributors at White Violet Center, and today there were two extra helpers on hand.
Tara and John-Michael Elmore are former interns at the center, which is a ministry of the Sisters of Providence. The couple returned as part of a quest to complete a service project in all 50 states in 2018.
They have a goal to highlight volunteerism and encourage everyone to give back to their communities. ” We’re the United States, we’re this amazing country, this collection of ideas, of volunteers, of organizations, of people, of businesses, 300 million strong. And there’s more that unites us than divides us, and we need to focus on that,” said John-Michael.
The Elmores say anyone can give back. “We’re fortunate enough that we can take a year off and travel the U.S. and do this. Not everyone can do that, people have kids, their lives and we understand that. But they can do it in their own communities,” said John-Michael.
The Elmores now live in Oregon. So far, they’ve completed service projects in 15 different states.
