Meeting held to talk chickens within the city

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Monday evening a meeting was held by the Chicken Ordinance Exploratory Committee to discuss allowing chickens within the city limits.

No decision was made whether they will be allowed yet or not. They will hold another meeting to continue to hear any issues community members have.

The next meeting is on November 12th at 4:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers in Terre Haute.

When a decision is made, the committee will need to draft recommendations to give to the city council for their approval.

Martha Crossen, a chair on the Chicken Ordinance Exploratory Committee, said “So I thought the spirit of the meeting was really good. People from enforcement understood the issues with people who want chickens, and the people with chickens understood the problems with enforcement. We may not have come out 100% on the same page, but I thought it was a very respectful and also a good idea generating meeting.”
