UPDATE: Medical emergency causes wreck on I-70, driver confirmed dead identified

UPDATE: The driver that suffered the medical emergency has been identified as Daryl W. Duhrkoff, of Portage, Michigan.

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An accident was caused on I-70 at the 18 mile marker due to a fatal medical emergency Thursday afternoon.

The driver was heading west when the vehicle crossed both lanes of traffic, and coming to a stop after hitting the tree line.

Lively stated she asked Duhrkoff a question and received no response. She said he wasn’t acting normal and had a blank stare.

First responders and those who stopped to help attempted to revive him but Duhrkoff was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, Shirley R. Lively, of Portage, Michigan, was transported to a Terre Haute hospital for treatment.

An autopsy for Duhrkoff is scheduled for Friday at Regional Hospital.
