Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett says much was accomplished in 2016 and even more needs to be done in 2017.
He addressed the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce Wednesday morning, saying that the city saw lots of new rental construction in 2016.
He also said that the 19th and Margaret train overpass project is going as planned.
He says the city is doing better financially, but still has work to do.
“We have to think beyond just what Terre Haute is today, what it will be in 5, 10, 15 years. So the message I wanted to send was we have to invest in ourselves and we must focus on teh quality of life for everybody in our community.”
The mayor did say that the South 7th Street resurfacing project hit a snag. The city recently found old railroad tracks under the street.
The project is still in the works, but will take longer and cost more money.
