Mayor Honors Older Americans Month

Mayor Duke Bennett read a proclamation to the residents to honor National Older Americans Month.

The Elder Americans Act was created in 1965 to help seniors get more assistance.
This proclamation honors Vigo County senior citizens for their contributions and thanks those who support and care for them. It brings awareness to seniors in our community, and all they have done and continue to do.

“Seniors are important and keeping them a viable part of our community is part of our outreach efforts. Keeping them social, keeping them active,” says Director of  Area 7 for Aging and Economic Development in West Central Indiana.

A sentiment Mayor Duke Bennett feels is important for everyone to be aware of.
“It gives them a chance to be exposed to that and those who are living in like a Peddle Park like where we are at today. They love it here and they get great services I’m just trying to help promote that,” says Bennett.

In Indiana 16 agencies on aging were created, and area 7 serves the Wabash Valley.
The next proclamation will be in Rockville on the courthouse square at noon on Tuesday, May 10th.
