On Monday, Mayor Duke Bennett proclaimed April 21-27 as “Shoe Bus Week” in honor of a local cause for Vigo County students in need.
The Terre Haute Women’s’ Club partners with local businesses to supply children from kindergarten through senior year with shoes and socks as part of the Shoe Bus project.
The Shoe Bus delivers approximately 1200 pairs of athletic shoes and 2600 pairs of socks to students in need every year.
Club member Heather Wolf says the proclamation shows Mayor Bennett’s dedication to the cause and comes at the perfect time.
“The nice thing about the Mayor proclaiming this Shoe Bus Week, this is typically when we get our big spring boost going, and so it’s in enough time that we’re just ahead of our event and we’re talking about what we do in the community and hoping that people will help us reach our goal of continuing to serve the children in Vigo County,” said Wolf.
The next fundraiser for this cause, titled “Sips for Shoes”, is scheduled for May 4th at the Country Club of Terre Haute.
Tickets can be purchased through one of the club members or on EventBrite.
