Man Found in Wabash River Identified

Sullivan County, IN - Officials have identified the man found in the Wabash River near Hutsonville, IN. Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom says the victim was 49 year old Dave Overbay from Lawrenceville, IL.

At this point it appears to be an accidental drowning.

Investigators determined Overbay was traveling along Levee Road near Graysville, IN when he ran off the road into a ditch. He had no cell phone, and left the scene before officers arrived. He was last seen walking towards the river.

Officials believe Overbay tried to swim across the Wabash.  Sheriff Cottom spoke to family members who describe Overbay as a decent swimmer who was familiar with the river.

Officials will complete the investigation once they receive toxicology test results. Foul play is not suspected.
