A Vermillion County man is counting his blessings, after he managed to walk away from an accident that lead to his vehicle catching on fire.
On Tuesday, just after 6:30 p.m., the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department responded ot reports of a traffic accident on US 36 and 3rd Street in Hillsdale.
Upon arrival, deputies found a red Chevrolet Camaro that had crashed in a wooded area off of US 36.
The vehicle had caught fire, and the occupant, 46-year-old Jon Bruce of Hillsdale, managed to escape the burning vehicle. The surrounding wooded area caught fire and was put out by local fire crews.
Bruce was taken to Union Hospital in Clinton to be treated for his injuries. Officials say he appears to be doing okay.
Upon further investigation, deputies determined that Bruce was traveling at a high rate of speed and misjudged his turn. Officials say alcohol does appear to have been a factor.
