A man is in custody after a domestic disturbance call turned into a standoff with police in Terre Haute.

It happened around 8:00 p.m. Monday night, in the 400 block of South 14th Street in Terre Haute. Police responded to a domestic disturbance call and then learned that the man may have had a gun.

Several officers were called to the area of 14th and Poplar, including the department’s Special Response Team.

Around 9:30 p.m., police were able to detain a man and give the all clear at the scene.

The man has been identified as Jerry Smith. He faces charges of strangulation and domestic battery.

Police say he also has two warrants out of another county.

No one was hurt during the incident.
